Ia menyebut ketika studi S3, mendapat kesempatan untuk belajar langsung kepada salah satu pakar di bidang penelitian yang digelutinya. Sehingga, hal ini membuat penelitiannya soal alat diagnostik itu memperoleh banyak sitasi dan masuk menjadi salah satu top scientists.
Eka mengatakan konsentrasinya adalah analitik, misalnya mendeteksi sesuatu seperti bahan berbahaya; obat; atau apa pun di berbagai jenis sampel.
“Kita juga ingin di bidang klinis itu, misalnya kalau familiar dengan gula, kolesterol, dan sebagainya, kita juga ingin mengembangkan, jadi yang dideteksi tidak hanya itu, tapi bisa dideteksi langsung di tempat lain,” jelasnya.

“Jadi yang mereka lakukan itu adalah masing-masing penelitian, itu kan punya karya ilmiah ya, dan itu tuh dilihat sitasinya selama setahun, sitasi selama lifetime,” katanya.
“Nah jadi itu merupakan kumulatif dari penelitian-penelitian yang sudah dilawan sebelumnya, tapi mereka mengukurnya ada yang selama lifetime, ada yang single year. Kebetulan saya dapet yang single year. Jadi, sitasi tahun selama setahun full gitu, tapi memang risetnya itu adalah terkait tadi,” imbuh Eka.
Lulusan S2 dan S3 University of Arizona Amerika Serikat itu memperoleh predikat top 2% ilmuwan terkait risetnya yang disebut sebagai paper-based analytical device (PAD) atau kit kertas yang bisa digunakan untuk deteksi cepat.
“Kita coba mengembangkan metode yang itu bisa digunakan langsung di lapangan, harapannya cukup ramah digunakan oleh pengguna yang tidak punya background lab. Jadi tujuannya seperti itu,” ungkap Eka.
“Kita membuat alat deteksi itu lebih aksesibel, baik dari segi biaya maupun segi fasilitas, jadi yang tidak butuh alat besar, tidak butuh dicolokin ke listrik, bisa dibawa ke lapangan,” lanjutnya.
